High School Football Websites

We are currently in the process of creating a Web site for Garrard County High School football. Our technology coordinator, Virginia Thomas and some of her students will be the ones creating the site. A Web site can serve many purposes for a program. It can be a good place for players and parents to check a calendar to see upcoming events, practice times, recruiting material, and see upcoming fundraisers. It can also be a good place to display the history of the program and school records. Parents and fans can have access to travel directions, etc.

I already have GCHS students interested in writing game articles and taking pictures at practices and games. We will have articles posted and photo galleries on the site. This will be good for our players, but also good for the contributing students. Most are interested in careers in writing and/or photography and will get the chance to work on their craft and have a good reference and/or portfolio before entering college.
Our Web site will be linked with the GCHS Web site when we get the site finalized. Hopefully, by the end of school we can have it up and running. I plan to also provide links for our middle school and youth league programs. I will be sure to let everyone know the link when we get it finished.

I have tried to model the design of the Web site after some schools that I feel have good, comprehensive sites. If you get the chance you should check some of them out. The three sites I like the most from Kentucky schools are Danville, Franklin-Simpson, and Owensboro. If you get the chance (and if you are reading this you probably have some down time) you should browse over to them. They are set up nicely. I have provided links for you below.

You should also check out the Odessa (TX) Permian site. If you read the book “Friday Night Lights” you are familiar with Odessa Permian High School and the love for football the folks there have. Their Web site has a virtual ‘Mojo Museum.’ That is not something I can probably get into ours here at the start, but it is definitely worth a look and I have provided the link to that site, as well.
